The goal

Working effectively in intercultural teams is an integral part of being a researcher and is becoming increasingly important in our globally networked world. As a leader of an intercultural team, there are additional challenges involved. The goal of the seminar is to convey psychological basics on the topic of intercultural collaboration, to offer helpful practical tools and to open the space for exchange of experiences and discussion. The seminar is aimed at scientists who already hold a leadership position or are interested in assuming one in the future.

How do I lead an intercultural team?
Which psychological models and theories help us to better understand the challenges of intercultural leadership?
What special features are there to consider when leading and collaborating in intercultural teams?
How can I improve cooperation in an intercultural team?

The implementation

In this seminar, you will receive an overview of the most important psychological theories on the topic of intercultural leadership and cooperation. The focus is on the application of classic leadership principles in an international context and dealing with intercultural differences. You will learn about helpful tools for practice and also have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other participants in a practical discussion in order to benefit from each other's experiences.

Instructors

Dr. Silvana Weber is a research associate, trainer, and consultant at the LMU Center for Leadership and People Management. As a trained systemic consultant and therapist, she is responsible for the professional management of coaching and consulting. She studied psychology at the University of Göttingen and UC Berkeley, received her doctorate from the University of Koblenz-Landau (2016), and habilitated at the University of Würzburg (2026). In addition to her academic work—including as a visiting professor of social psychology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (2020/21)—she is particularly passionate about science communication and is co-editor of In-Mind magazine.

Dr. Stefanie Krauth has been a research assistant and trainer at the LMU Center for Leadership and People Management since 2022. She studied psychology at the University of Vienna (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) and successfully completed her doctorate on the topic of gender stereotypes in leadership in October 2025. In addition to her research focus on sexism in leadership and organizations, her practical work particularly addresses topics such as diversity, effective leadership, (intercultural) communication, conflict resolution, creativity, and teamwork. Furthermore, she works as a freelance trainer, designing and delivering psychological trainings and workshops.
